Sunny shades of red are, well, red-hot, these days. Pittsburgh Paints reds include a very pretty Rum Punch, part of a palette called Local Revival that pairs berry shades with pebbly grey, brick brown and creamy white. Farrow and Ball is showing the brick red Incarnadine with the bluish grey Pigeon and fresh white. They also pair it with the inky Drawing Room Blue to great effect.
Red’s younger cousin, pink, is showing up soft and peachy. Look at Behr’s Tea Party (Wonder if the company regrets choosing that name Stateside?) that matches shades such as First Peach with minty green, pales blue and violet to reference ‘80s spa colours. Behr paint is available at Home Depot.
This current crop of popular yellows are mustardy, and tinged with tan, green or gray. (And while yes, it’s pretty, enough with the gray and yellow Toile de Juoy, already. Please.) Consider CIL’s Golden Ember, which looks as though it would do well with peachy beiges and orange.
Personally, my all-time favourite yellow remains Oro de Maya, from Pittsburgh Paint’s Hacienda collection. PPG colour consultant Janice Lindsay once proved her own genius by suggesting I trim it with the twiney Jute. It’s a sublime combination.
