A great way to add bright shots of colour into a room is with accent pillows or cushions. At West Elm, they have bright red patterned poufs that are an ideal way to inject some red while also providing a comfy way to sit on the floor.
West Elm partnered with Aid to Artisans to provide a way to introduce artisan groups from around the world to the western West Elm audience. To read a bit more about the Found Battani Patterned Poufs in “Battani Pouf Perfect for Home Decor Accent.”

Adorn the walls of a child’s bedroom with a wild, animal kingdom or turn the walls of a playroom into a zoo. A number of wall decals are removable and reusable, so you can continuously recreate different scenes and keep creature, creativity flowing.
However, animals aren't just for kids. There are a number of animal-inspired decals that, when donned on a more mature wall, would look quite lovely.
Take a peek at some of the fun animal wall decals we've spotted in the photo gallery “Delightful Wall Decals Go Animal Wild.”
Pony up for a ponyhide comfy curvy chair. The shape is reminiscent of the 60s, and the material is reminiscent of a ranch. This would make a nice accent piece in an office or lounge. It could inject feelings of farm life into your home. But be warned, it is quite a distinct style that makes a statement, so be sure it fits your home decor and design before loosening your lasso and roping it into your home. But at the same time, don't be scared to a consider cowboy concept. Some may like to saddle up and herd their hide into a contoured cow chair and not mooo-ve for hours.
Like the style but not the hide? There’s a wide range of leather options available, from classic colours like chocolate, black, white and tan, to wasabi, tangerine, and toffee. The Retro Regeneration by Collection International Interiors has a wide range of cool blast from the past furniture pieces. So if you like old-school styles, but not the old age of vintage, check them out.
The casaGURU crew were among the 50,000 people who went to the Interior Design Show this year. We had a great time, met with really interesting and inspiring people, and left with loads of ideas for products to feature and trends to keep an eye on for Home Decor and Design.
Italian designer Fabio Novembre gives an interesting talk.
You’ll notice in our blogs "Fun Finds from the Interior Design Show" and "Outdoor IDeaS" that we were of a similar mindset to the IDS judges because TILTCO by Williamsong Chong & Kilbarry Hill, DuPont™Corian® + UUfie, and Earth Inc all won awards! Congrats!
Working clockwise from left to right we have casaGURU product GURU Tom with Manny from Vintage Hardwood Flooring, writer/editor Emer wearing 2012's orange having a seat at The Felt Store booth, and account manager Nick checking out more fine flooring.
In case you missed them, check out our pre and post show blog entries:
We look forward to next year, when IDS celebrates their 15th anniversary!
"phew! exciting but exhausting!"
The Interior Design Show showcases a spectrum of design for plain and practical, to imaginative and wacky. Here are some of the really neat things we came across during our time there:
This peacock chair was created by UUfie with DuPont Corian, a product usually used for countertops. The chair itself was pretty spectacular, but the shadows it created could be considered residual art. Perhaps not the most practical for your everyday average home, but they sure are pretty. In fact, could make a nice accent furniture piece in the right garden.
Cross sections of window frames were placed Lego-like together to create abstract wall art at the Natural Light booth (put together by TILTCO Fenestration with Kilbarry Hill Construction and Williamson Chong Architects).
In the carpet world you often hear of Persian style, see solid colours, and then there’s big bold patterns, but now there’s YOU? That’s right, letting someone walk all over you can now be a decorative decision. At the Modallion booth we saw a rug with Fashion Television host Jeanne Beker (fashion for under your FeeT).
When you don’t have much of it, you realize what a luxury "space" can be. Some of the condos being built today offer very little space, or oddly laid out space. That’s why finding inventive ways to maximize what you’ve got can sometimes be challenging, but we spotted a number of interesting options at the Interior Design Show.
Space Interiors had two of their storage beds on display. You can select the size of bed (king or queen), the amount of drawers (which affects the height) and the material and headboard (nice variety in both). This means you can store clothes or objects under your bed in a nice, neat and organized way versus stuffing things under your bed willy nilly. In fact, we like this bed so much we recently highlighted it in our January Best Finds!
A variation on hide-a-beds. Instead of lifting the bed up into the wall, what if walls came down around the bed? Ok, so this doesn’t physically “save” any space, but it can give a bachelor apartment or an open concept space more definition and privacy. This bedroom display, designed by Mike Niven Interior Design Inc., is called "Moving Day". Sheets that resemble wainscoting descend from the ceiling to surround the bed and, voilà , instant privacy.
You may have seen the beds in screwball comedies from the 1960s. But unlike the hilarious on screen antics that involved people being rolled up and stowed away, these hide-a-way beds seem very sturdy. This was also from the "Moving Day" display.
Resource Furniture's booth had so many cool things it deserves a little section of its own. In addition to a bed in a closet, they have hide-a-way bunk beds, space saving tables, sofa-cum-wall beds, and more.
