Insurance Brokers Association of Nova Scotia
The Insurance Brokers Association of Nova Scotia (IBANS) is a trade association that represents the interests of member insurance brokers throughout the province. In operation since 1949, IBANS is an active part of the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC), a network of insurance broker professionals that spans the country. IBANS also strives to safeguard consumer rights and provide professional services that suit consumer needs.
Member Education and Training
Over 1200 auto, home, and commercial insurance brokers in Nova Scotia are members of IBANS, which is run by a board of directors drawn from its membership.
On average, IBANS members have an average of 20 years’ experience in the industry and continually upgrade their skills through professional development opportunities. In addition to such benefits as valuable industry-related savings and participation in the Broker Identity Program, members have access to extensive networking and accreditation opportunities and can participate with other insurance brokers to help establish industry policy.
Following its policy of ethical conduct and standards, all members must hold a valid Nova Scotia general insurance license; primarily be an insurance broker, and have contracts or agreements with other insurance companies which do not prohibit their ability to represent an insurer.
Association Ethics and Standards
With over 1200 practitioners across Nova Scotia, IBANS has members with offices throughout the province. Considering the number of IBANS members throughout Nova Scotia, the Association strives to protect consumers that are also considered fellow community members. The IBANS Code of Consumer Rights and Responsibilities outlines the commitment the Association has to protecting the rights of consumers.
IBANS brokers who sell home, life, and auto insurance strive to ensure consumers understand their rights when they shop for insurance or need to submit a claim. IBANS works to ensure that consumers have the right to be fully informed; treated fairly; timely complaint resolution, and privacy – all elements that underscore professional insurance broker services.
