Founded in 1962, the Electrical Contractors Association of Alberta (ECAA) is a self-governing body that is considered ‘the voice’ of the electrical industry in Alberta. The Association works to ensure professionalism in its members through education and strong stakeholder relationships.
The ECAA has grown from its roots as an amalgamation of local electrical associations, and has Chapters in Calgary, Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Central, NE and NW. In 1993, it received professional status under the Professional and Occupational Associations Registration Act as Professional Electrical Contractors (PEC.). The PEC Regulation has recently been amended to include registration of Certified (CME) and Registered (RME) Master Electricians.
As an industry-leading representative, the Electrical Contractors Association of Alberta is committed to:
With over 400 members, the ECAA represents electrical contractors (member firms), associate, honorary, and lifetime members as well as regulatory members those that have received the P.E.C. designation (master electricians), P.E.C. student members, Certified and Registered (master electricians). Those that meet the Association's strict membership criteria are eligible for ECAA services that include representation on government and industry boards, labour negotiations, special seminars, industry meetings, and conventions.
The Association helps members handle problems with other professionals such as inspection authorities and general contractors; and assists the public with electrical contractor queries and concerns.
ECAA members recognize the importance of methods of operation to ensure public confidence and safety, and work with industry partners as well as the construction trade to ensure its Code of Ethical Practice is adhered to. Toward the betterment of their trade, ECAA members are required to cooperate with other industry professionals and associations, honour customer contract agreements, provide realistic and knowledgeable information on a project’s design, cost, schedules, budgets, and quotations, and function in accordance with Association by-laws.
