The Interior Designers of Nova Scotia (IDNS) is a volunteer-based association that represents professional Interior Designers in Nova Scotia. Established in 1975, IDNS champions professional excellence by maintaining high standards of education and professional development for all members. According to the Interior Designers Act, which was passed by the Nova Scotia legislature in 2004, only registered IDNS members are permitted to use the title ‘Interior Designer’.
In its commitment to the advancement of interior design in Nova Scotia, the IDNS’s mandate is to promote and support the interests of both the public and the interior design industry as a whole.
Affiliated with Interior Designers of Canada (IDC), the Association works to protect the health and safety of the public; develop and maintain interior design standards and practice; provide courses for interior designer professional development, and act as a liaison between the profession and the public.
In order to maintain high industry standards, the IDNS ensures that all members have professional interior design qualifications that are accredited with the Council for Interior Design Accreditation. The Association works closely with the Council to ensure that future professionals meet industry standards.
The IDNS also enforces a Code of Ethics that is based on the Interior Designers Act. In working with government, industry professionals, and the public, the IDNS continually strives to ensure that members provide professional and reliable interior design services.
