The Electrical Contractors of British Columbia (ECABC) was founded in 1952 to be the central voice for electrical contractors. Today, the ECABC remains the only Association in British Columbia that dedicates itself to the interests of electrical contractors and their suppliers. The ECABC fulfills this through its mission to strengthen and promote the industry through representation to the public, government agencies, and industry-related groups.
As a member of the Canadian Electrical Contractors Association (CECA), the ECABC has the opportunity to express its members’ opinions and concerns on provincial and national issues that affect the electrical industry.
The ECABC’s membership consists of union-affiliated and open shop contractors as well as suppliers of goods and services to the electrical industry. Contractors engaged in electrical work in British Columbia, or supply goods and services to the industry qualify for membership with the ECABC.
In addition to benefits such as industry representation to government, associations, and councils, ECABC members have access to seminars, sessions, and speakers on a wide range of issues. The ECABC’s Salaried Employees Training Trust Fund is another member benefit that provides financial assistance for courses and seminars – a way to help Association members build their knowledge and skills.
Active in ensuring the industry maintains high standards of professionalism, the ECABC consistently is advocating its own standards of ethical and professional conduct as well as those of the Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA). In addition, the Association informs the public on the benefits of a licensed contractor and what permits are required to maintain consumer health and safety.
