Saskatchewan Association of Architects
The Saskatchewan Association of Architects (SAA) is a professionally self-regulatory body and association that was first established as an independent body in 1911 through the Architects Act, a provincial statute.
The mandate of the SAA is to protect the public’s interest which includes public health, safety, and welfare, in the practice of architecture in Saskatchewan. The Association actively works to increase public awareness and confidence in the roles, responsibilities, and capabilities of architects.
Member Education and Training
The SAA ensures the competence and good conduct of registered architects through its governance over use of the official seal, which is only granted to SAA members. The Association provides regulatory services that include a formal mechanism for discipline should a member of the public prove a complaint against the conduct or competence of a member; as well as enforcement mechanisms to ensure public protection against illegal practice.
The SAA also works with national counterparts and accrediting agencies to evaluate post-secondary programs; and consults with other design professions to ensure co-operation, consistency, and coherence in the interests of the public and the environment.
Association Ethics and Standards
The Association provides practical support and advice to members and participates in industry-related committees. The SAA liaises with provincial and national industry-related associations and other regulatory bodies as well as provincial, municipal and First-Nations government on issues related to the profession. The SAA’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct is enforced by the Association in order to help protect the public and to uphold the reputation of the profession.
