Canadian Association of Movers

The Canadian Association of Movers (CAM) is Canada’s national association representing the moving industry. As an industry association, CAM’s objectives are to further the interests of its members and to provide a forum where industry professionals can share ideas and concerns over industry-related issues.

CAM plays a prominent role in the moving industry and actively works with Industry Canada and other government and industry bodies to ensure high standards of practice in order to protect consumers.

For consumers, CAM’s primary goals are to provide consumer information, such as the Consumer Checklist, that it developed in partnership with Industry Canada. The information helps consumers make an informed choice when searching for a mover. CAM’s website provides consumers with contact information for CAM members who are qualified by the Association as Certified Canadian Movers.

In order to reinforce the high industry standards it has helped to establish, CAM maintains a set of criteria for professional movers who want to join the Association. Applicants must provide a evidence of having a place of business, a business licence, GST registration number, Workers’ Compensation certificate, insurance certificate showing a minimum liability of $1 million and a cargo limit of $250,000, an incorporation certificate, as well as agree to abide by the Association’s Code of Ethics. But more importantly, CAM looks at the reputation of the mover both within the moving community and in its dealings with consumers.

Those who qualify for membership enjoy benefits that include industry referral services as well as access to The Canadian Professional Mover course which is offered by CAM. Developed by members of the Association and Dalhousie University, the course is continually updated to reflect industry trends and issues.
