Professional Interior Designers Institute of Manitoba
The Professional Interior Designers Institute of Manitoba (PIDIM) is committed to the practice of professional interior design for the purpose of improving the quality of life – health, safety, and welfare - through the design of interior environments. An association of interior designers, only those with the appropriate education and experience, and have passed the National Council of Interior Design Qualification Exam (NCIDQ) are allowed to practice the profession in Manitoba, under the designation ‘Professional Interior Designer’.
Member Education and Training
The Association has three categories of membership: professional, provisional, and associate. Professional members have the relevant education and experience and have either passed the NCIDQ or were ‘grandfathered’ when the examinations were adopted. Only professional members can use the title ‘Professional Interior Designer’ in Manitoba as mandated by the PIDIM Act. Provisional members hold a conditional certificate until they pass the NCIDQ exam, though professionals must have at least six years’ combined college-level Interior Design education and work experience before they qualify for exam eligibility.
In order to maintain the integrity of the profession, all PIDIM professional and provisional members must carry Errors & Omissions Liability Insurance. Finally, associate members are individuals who wish to retain contact with the PIDIM but are not full Professional Members.
The PIDIM offers members a variety of benefits, including exclusive use of the PIDIM designation and right to use the title ‘Professional Interior Designer’ in Manitoba as well as networking and continuing education opportunities, and client referral services.
Association Ethics and Standards
The Association not only helps members with their professional development, but also works to promote the profession by increasing public awareness of the interior design field and building relationships with organizations linked to the industry.
The PIDIM works to protect the public by ensuring professional members are qualified and follow ethical principles of business conduct. The Association’s principles also encourage building on knowledge, skills, and industry proficiency as well as participating in programs to facilitate the education of those wishing to become Professional Interior Designers.
