The Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors ® (CAHPI®) is a national association whose mission is to promote and develop the home inspection profession and home inspection industry. CAHPI® is considered the voice of Canada’s home inspection professionals and was incorporated in 1982 in order to represent a discipline that requires special training, knowledge, and communication skills that differ from other building professions.
Over 1300 members are represented through seven provincial/regional associations of CAHPI® - self-regulating professional bodies of home inspectors who share information through educational seminars and conferences as well as publications, and meetings.
The Association advocates the professional development of home inspection professionals, all members strive to be Registered Home Inspectors (RHI).
The Association strongly encourages its members to also be National Certificate Holders. Membership in CAHPI provides an assurance to a home buyer that their professional home inspector has demonstrated the ability to meet CAHPI's standards of practice.
Members are subject to a Code of Ethics that cites integrity as the keystone of professional conduct. The Code emphasizes the standards of honesty, fairness, and good faith when dealing with clients and other home inspection professionals.
In addition to advocating the importance of home inspection standards and its impact on the industry`s reputation, CAHPI`s Standards of Practice are a definitive set of guidelines for home inspectors to follow.
Considered the most widely accepted home inspection guidelines in use, both the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics are recognized by many professionals as the standards for professionalism in the industry.
