The British Columbia branch of the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors (CAHPI) was formed in 1991 and has since played an important role in shaping the home inspection industry at both the provincial and national level. CAHPI (BC) was formed by industry professionals within the province to promote public awareness and confidence in the industry, promote dialogue between professionals, and ensure professional standards of excellence through its Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
With over 275 members, the CAHPI (BC) works to ensure professionals have a forum to exchange ideas and further their skills through regular meetings and seminars. In addition, the Association has strict membership guidelines in order to protect the profession’s integrity.
Candidates must achieve a 75% passing grade on their CAHPI exams, and complete at least 250 fee paid inspections to become a Registered Home Inspector (RHI), and submit a Service Contract Usage Declaration to ensure consumer contracts adhere to Association Standards.
The Association also requires all members to submit proof of Errors and Omissions Coverage and Liability Insurance Coverage as well as continue with educational opportunities in order to maintain membership.
CAHPI (BC) consistently works to ensure its Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics are communicated and upheld in order to protect consumers and the industry’s reputation. The Association provides consumers with a point of contact to help them address concerns or get more information on home inspections and home inspectors.
Finally, through its provincial and national exchanges with other industry professionals, associations, and chapters, CAHPI (BC) has become a lead player in maintaining high standards for the home inspection industry.
