Home Inspectors are assessment professionals who are focused on the condition of a structure. Inspectors are usually hired during the buying and selling process to assess a home for improper building practices, elements that require repairs as well as general maintenance issues (without opening up walls).

An inspector will check the roof, basement, heating and cooling system, structure, plumbing, electrical, and other building aspects for improper building practices, items that require extensive repairs or general maintenance as well as some fire and safety issues.

A home inspector is sometimes confused with a real estate appraiser. A home inspector determines the condition of a structure whereas an appraiser determines the value of a property.
