Kitchens, bathrooms, and basements - these three big remodeling projects have the largest impact on re-sale prices. An accredited interior designer can unlock the full value in these rooms for homeowners.
Interior Designers blend aesthetics (the look and feel) of a home with functionality when designing a space.
When designing, professionals consider the amount of available space, client needs and wants as well as their budget when working on a project. Interior designers provide the following services to clients: selecting colour schemes for a space, choosing furniture and accessories, deciding if a room needs remodeling, suggesting slight changes in building structure, obtaining building permits, drawing or computer modelling the space, or restoring rooms or buildings to historical accuracy.
Interior designer professionals are also trained in architectural detailing including floor plans, home renovations, and building codes in additional to their traditional knowledge in decorating. To be able to practice as an interior designer, professionals must have a post-secondary degree. Once qualified, interior designers are both obligated and protected by provincial law.
While there are a number of organizations that offer interior design training, there are four major associations that accredit interior design professionals in North America: Interior Designers of Canada (IDC), Interior Design Educators Council, (IDEC) and the American Society of Interior Designers.
The Interior Designers Association of Saskatchewan and the Professional Interior Designers of Manitoba, both chapters of the IDC, are partner association in the casaGURU Network where homeowners can search for a local interior designer on casaGURU's website.
