Interior Decorators focus on the selection and presentation of interior items within a space, such as furniture, accessories, finishes, and room layout.

Homeowners often confuse interior decorators with interior designers, but there are important differences between the two.

After earning a post-secondary diploma, interior decorators deal with interior cosmetics, which includes all of a room's features from the walls inwards. But when a wall needs to be moved or a homeowner requires a building permit or construction plans that comply with the building code, an interior designer is the right professional to use.

Interior Decorator Associations

While there are a number of organizations that offer interior decorator training, only three major associations accredit interior decorator professionals in North America: Decorators Alliance of North America (DANA), Certified Interior Decorators International (CID), Canadian Decorators’ Association (CDECA).
