This is the time of year where we want everything at home to look it’s best. We spend a lot of time entertaining friends and family and want a fresh start for the New Year; one of the best places to start is with your furniture arrangement.
The right furniture placement in a room can make a small space look larger, a large space look cozier and every room look and function better. Getting the right angle on your furniture placement can make a room appear and work bigger! That’s right, if you have a small space that you want to look larger try a trick the pros use: arrange your furniture on an angle.
Instead of lining your furniture up along the walls of a room - waiting room style - arrange the furniture so that the major pieces are kiddy corner; for example, in a small bedroom place the head of the bed kiddy corner on the two largest walls. Flank the bed with wall-mounted swing arm lamps and two small tables. With this arrangement, not only is the room more visually interesting but it will also appear larger.
Use the same idea in a living room or family room. A little geometry makes a small room appear larger. By arranging your furniture on the angle, you will make the entire room feel spacious and open. Position the sofa on an angle, place the television on the wall in front of the sofa and add a chair or love seat next to the sofa (at a ninety-degree angle) on the wall-side of the room. Place the chair within a few inches of the sofa. With this arrangement, everyone can easily view the television and every seat is close enough to talk and maintain eye contact. The triangle arrangement allows for plenty of leg room and makes conversation easier. With this arrangement, all your guests and family will feel a part of every conversation and activity. Note that a coffee table can sit in front of your sofa on the same angle.
